I must admit, when I heard that Milton was looking to build a Velodrome for the 2015 PanAm Games, my first thought was "Monorail!" The whole thing sounded like an enormous white elephant - another orphaned Hamilton project championed by certain Milton councillors as a way to garner headlines, much like their ill-advised flirtation with the "Milton Ti-Cats".

In 2006, OPP Sgt. Greg Stobbart was struck and killed by a truck while cycling on Tremaine Road, just south of Main. The truck driver had had his license suspended five times before the accident, owed $14,000 in driving-related fines, and yet he was only sentenced to 100 hours of community service and told to attend drivers ed.

It was gratifying to see so many people turn out for the two public input sessions on the fate of the Bruce Street Library yesterday. There were about 150 who attended the afternoon meeting and another 40-50 in the evening, so obviously this is still something people feel passionately about.

With as little fanfare as possible, the Town of Milton has finally posted the dates for the long-awaited 'Public Input Sessions' on the future of the Bruce Street Library.  There will be two sessions, both on December 7th at the Milton Seniors Activity Centre - one from 3:00 to 5:00 and the other from 7:00 to 9:00.

It was a beautiful day for Milton's Remembrance Day ceremonies today.

I got downtown a bit early and was pleased to see a huge contingent of motorcyclists had turned up for the occasion (motorcycles were originally popularized by returning WWII vets, don't forget). I grabbed some lunch at Country Mile and finished up just as the parade was coming around the corner from the Legion.

It's been an intense couple of days on the campaign trail.  Tuesday evening was the Ward 2 DBIA debate, followed Wednesday afternoon by the all-candidates meeting on seniors issues.

It was a good night last night.

I didn't count, but I've heard that there were about 120 people attending last night's all candidates meeting at the Milton Fairgrounds. Most seemed to be from either Ward 2 or from the rural wards, and almost all of the questions in the second half were directed to candidates from those areas. After taking a little holiday break in Halifax with my dear husband last week, I came back to find a lovely gift waiting for me at the Town Clerk's Office - the 2010 Voters List for Ward 2!

While I have been actively campaigning since January, the release of the voters list generally marks the point where average people start thinking seriously about the upcoming election.

On Thursday evening, Heritage Milton met to decide whether to recommend the designation the St. Paul's Church sanctuary as a heritage building, or to allow the Church to move forward with its request for demolition. Either recommendation would toss the ball back into Town Council's court and force a final decision at the next council meeting on July 19th.

A 7 year-old boy was struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bike on Scott Boulevard near the new P.L. Robertson Public School in south west Milton.  The boy was ok - just cuts and bruises - and apparently the car and driver have been identified.

Halton Healthcare Services made a presentation to Council last night to update everyone on the status of the Milton District Hospital expansion.  It was very informative, and clarified not only the situation with the Province but also the next steps that need to be taken by this council as well as the next.

Check the Town website to see if you are on the voters list.  If you are not, just bring your ID and proof of address (driver's license, utility bill, etc.) to Town Hall or to the polling location when you vote.
